Has it ever crossed your mind to begin teaching your baby in the use of Sign Language? It truly is a terrific idea. Not only will it increase the bonding between you and your little one, but a baby can learn to use Sign Language much sooner than he or she can speak – quite frequently by several months! Wouldn’t it be great to cut down on your baby’s tantrums and frustration at home? It can happen in your life if you will teach your baby to “speak” to you in Sign.

As an example, imagine that your ten-month-old baby is thirsty and wants milk, not fruit juice and not water. The baby starts to fuss. You resignedly begin the usual ritual of checking the condition of the diaper; checking to see whether child has a fever; emptying the baby bag item by item, repeating in increasing frustration “Is it this?” You even show the baby a bottle of fruit juice – but the little one wails in disappointment and frustration when he or she realizes the bottle contains a drink that he or she does NOT want. Now both you and the child, and everyone within earshot, are totally frazzled; the baby is drenched in tears, and youare close to tears, as well.

All of this heartache can be avoided, even if the child is not yet verbal. All the child would need to know, and have to do, is to make a Sign to you which both of you know, and the result would be instant communicationbetween you and the child. You could go the refrigerator and get milk for the baby, and peace would reign again. Doesn’t that sound heavenly?
