Parents always want to be assured that they are looking after their baby in the best possible way. Once your baby begins teething you need to start thinking about how to take care of baby teeth. Care of baby teeth can be a challenge, so if you are a new parent, here are some basic tips for you to follow.

Care of Baby Teeth tip #1
When your baby cries more frequently, starts dribbling excessively and tries to bite on things, you know that it is time to start the care of baby teeth. One of the first things you could do is to buy a couple of teething rings for the baby. Some teething rings are filled with water and these ones are great for putting in the refrigerator, because the cold water helps to numb the gums.

Care of Baby Teeth tip #2
Offering your baby chilled food such as yogurt or fruit purees may help.

Care of Baby Teeth tip #3
Another thing that you should know is that colds often coincide with teething although nobody really knows why. If the baby has a slight fever then sooth him with a damp washcloth to cool him down and make him feel refreshed.

Care of Baby Teeth tip #4
The teething process can be very painful and distressing for some babies and they may need teething gel or a prescription but check with your doctor first.

Care of Baby Teeth tip #5
When a few of the teeth have come through you need to start to get the baby used to brushing his teeth. You can start to do this with a soft brush or gum massager finger brush.

Care of Baby Teeth tip #6
At about 18 months you should think about taking your baby to the dentist for the first time. Even though you may think there’s no need it does help to get them used to going from a young age.

And in know time at all just as it seems all the teeth have come though they will all start falling out again! This is very exciting for children because it means a visit from the tooth fairy, so be sure to make that a fun experience.

Baby Development Stages in the First Year

Every parent wants to be assured that their baby is developing at a ‘normal’ rate but whilst all babies go through different milestones in the same order the pace does vary from baby to baby. However it is possible roughly gauge how your baby will develop in his or her first year. As you are probably aware, your baby willl have growth spurts but you will also see development spurts too. Movements tend to be quite jerky to begin with but become smoother as the baby gets older.

Baby Development Stage at One month
Your baby’s body will not be very straight yet but he will be able to raise his head slightly. He will make tight fists of his hands and anything which is placed in the palm of his hand he will grasp due to a reflex action.

Baby Development Stage at Two months
At two months he will be able to raise his head slightly more and be able to hold that position for a couple of seconds. His hands wil start to open more and his grasp will start to become voluntary rather than a reflex.

Baby Development Stage at Three months
Your baby’s body will now be uncurled and his legs will be extended. He will be able to hold his head up. He may still not be able to grasp things for long but his hands will have opened up.

Baby Development Stage at Four months
At four months, if you place your baby on his tummy he should be able to support his upper body on his forearms and will be able to roll on to his side or even on to his back. His hands will become a source of great fascination for him and he could spend hours looking at them and playing with them.

Baby Development Stage at Five months
Your baby will be able to fully push himself up on his arms and will be able to roll from back to side. He will start to grasp objects with both of his hands and will probably start to enjoy a new game of sucking his feet.

Baby Development Stage at Six months
Your baby will be able to sit unsupported for a few seconds and will be able to twist in all directions. He might be able to turn his wrist and hold an object between his thumb and forefinger.

Baby Development Stage at Seven months
Your baby will be able to sit on his own for a longer time, particularly if he can lean forward slightly to balance himself. He will now be able to hold an object with both hands.
Baby Development Stage at Eight months
At eight months your baby will be able to sit completely on his own and will be able to turn around. He will getting into a crawling position and will be able to grasp small objects with his hands.

Baby Development Stage at Nine months
Your baby will be trying to crawl although this may be in a ‘commando’ style by pulling himself along with his arms. He may start poking things with his finger.

Baby Development Stage at Ten months
Your baby will be able to crawl with straight arms and legs and will probably be trying to pull himself in to a standing position. He will also now be able to hold two objects in one hand.

Baby Development Stage at Eleven months
At eleven months your baby will be able to toddle when supported and will be able to ‘cruise’ along the furniture unaided. He will be able to feed himself with finger food and give and take objects.

Baby Development Stage at Twelve months
Your baby will start to stand by himself or even take a few steps. His coordination will improve constantly and he will be able to roll a ball across the floor. As I said these milestones are only guideline.

Your baby will develop in his own time so don’t try and force him to do so more quickly than he wants just help and encourage him all you can.

Basic Baby Care Tips

The day you bring your first new baby home from the hospital is one of enormous joy but it doesn’t matter how prepared you are as you will still probably feel a bit scared and rather unsure as well because you don’t want to do anything wrong. However, there are a few basic baby care tips that all parents should follow.

Baby Care Tip #1: Your Baby’s Room

A newborn baby is not yet able to regulate her body temperature that well so you need to make sure her room is kept at the right temperature both during the day and night. The ideal temperature is about 20C (68f). Make sure your baby’s cot and changing area aren’t directly under a bright light so you can feed and change her at night without disturbing her too much.

Baby Care Tip #2: Settling the Baby

Give the baby time to bring up her wind and change her nappy. Swaddling the baby can be very comforting is an effective technique for calming a crying baby too. Sometimes babies cry not just because they are hungry or messy, but also because they do not feel secure, and properly swaddling the baby will provide them with that security.

Baby Care Tip #3 Bathing the Baby

Some babies hate being bathed at first and your baby won’t come to any harm if she doesn’t have a bath for a few days as long as you keep her clean by topping and tailing. If you have a baby bath then any warm room in your house will be a suitable place to bath your baby. Don’t over fill the bath – it should be deep enough to just cover most of your baby’s body while you support her head and shoulders out of the water.

However, once your baby can sit up unaided you might want to bath her in a regular bathtub. If you choose to do so it is important to remember that the water should be no more than 3 or 4 inches deep. But never leave your baby alone in the bath even if she is able to sit up as it is possible to drown in just an inch or two of water. When it comes to the temperature of the water, test it by dipping your elbow in it. This part of your body is more sensitive than your hand and it should feel pleasantly warm.

Remember, taking care of a baby can be a steep learning curve but it is a rewarding (if tiring at times) experience but have patience and you will succeed. Good luck!
