When your baby cries more frequently, starts dribbling excessively and tries to bite on things, you know that it is time to start the care of baby teeth. One of the first things you could do is to buy a couple of teething rings for the baby. Some teething rings are filled with water and these ones are great for putting in the refrigerator, because the cold water helps to numb the gums.

Offering your baby chilled food such as yogurt or fruit purees may help.

Another thing that you should know is that colds often coincide with teething although nobody really knows why. If the baby has a slight fever then sooth him with a damp washcloth to cool him down and make him feel refreshed.

The teething process can be very painful and distressing for some babies and they may need teething gel or a prescription but check with your doctor first.

At about 18 months you should think about taking your baby to the dentist for the first time. Even though you may think there’s no need it does help to get them used to going from a young age.
